Devy Rankings Q&A – Tight Ends

We have officially made it to the point in the year where dynasty, devy, and C2C drafts are in full swing. Jim (@jim_DFF) and I (@Evan_Kerr_) have been hard at work adjusting and tinkering with our devy rankings to make them a near-perfect product for all to utilize. Grinding film and digging into analytics has helped us to painstakingly rank over 300 players on their ability to make the jump to the next level.

The process has made us question ourselves in a number of ways, and even now that the rankings are updated, we find ourselves questioning where different players landed on the big board.

In this four-article series, we’ve decided to peel back the proverbial curtain and reveal some of what goes on within the mind of a devy ranker. Isolating one position for each article, we were each asked a series of five questions that forced us to decide which players we think are too high, which players we think are too low, a player that we just can’t seem to quit, a player we have completely given up on, and a deep sleeper we think more people need to be talking about.

For the fourth and final edition of the Devy Rankings Q&A, we focused on the tight ends.

Devy Players of the Week

In Miami’s regular-season finale, 6’4” 224 lbs. redshirt freshman, Tyler Van Dyke led the Hurricanes to a convincing 47-10 win over the Duke Blue Devils, throwing for 381 yards and three touchdowns. After taking over for injured D’Eriq King in Week 4, Van Dyke had a couple of rough outings, but starting in late October Van Dyke has looked like a very good young QB. Since Miami’s victory over NC State, Van Dyke has completed 66% of his passes for 2,194 yards, 20 touchdowns, three interceptions, and has a passer rating of 171.85. In his 10 appearances on the year, Van Dyke leads the ACC in Passing Yards Per Attempt with nine and is second in the conference in Passing Efficiency Rating at 160.1. I find his efficiency as a first-year starter to be very impressive.

DFF Senior Bowl Part 2: Practice Stand-Outs

Devy Breakout Player of the Week: Week 3

SEC football came back, and it did not disappoint! The player of the week was Florida’s star tight end Kyle Pitts who put up an amazing stat line of eight catches for 170 yards and four TDs. His junior quarterback Kyle Trask was dealing, he finished the game with 416 passing yards and six TDs, making it clear why he was the preseason All-SEC QB1. The Florida Gators routed Ole Miss 51-35 ruining Lane Kiffin’s coaching debut, though they could not slow down the Rebels’ slot receiver Elijah Moore. The junior receiver had 10 catches for 227 yards against the Gator defense.
