Week 9 Streamers

Sam Darnold (NYJ) at Dolphins, 15.2% owned. As usual, picking on the Dolphins’ defense is a good move for any of the offensive players facing them. Even though Darnold threw three interceptions against the Jaguars in week 8, he went 21/30 passing for 218 yards and two touchdowns. Darnold could represent a strong streaming value not just in this matchup but for the next six weeks. In those games, he faces the Dolphins, Giants, Redskins, Raiders, Bengals, and Dolphins again. Each of those defenses has been terrible all season, so picking up Darnold could solve your quarterback problem for the rest of the fantasy regular season. Considering how awful the Dolphins have been and that more of their defensive players could be traded by Tuesday’s trade deadline, I will rank Darnold as a borderline QB1 in this matchup.

DraftKings: Main Slate GPP Tournament Plays for Week 8

Russell Wilson ($7,200) is strictly a GPP play for me on DraftKings this week, priced all the way up to $7,200. He should smash against an Atlanta defense that ranks at or near the bottom of the league in just about every meaningful defensive statistic. The issue here is Atlanta’s ability to stay in this game, which is highly correlated with the health of Matt Ryan, who left in the second half of Week 7 with an ankle injury. While the Seahawks have some problems in the secondary, they do a good job of putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks, which is less than ideal given the Falcons porous offensive line. With Matt Schaub under center, it’s unlikely that the Falcons can hang offensively, and even with a limited Ryan, you need Atlanta to put up an offensive showing in order to force Wilson into the kind of game script his price tag requires.

Kerryon Johnson heads to IR, “Next man up” in Detroit Backfield

“Next man up!”Often what’s said after a player goes down to injury in the NFL, also holds true in fantasy football as well.Today, ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter announced Kerryon Johnson, the Detroit Lions’ second-year running back, underwent surgery and will be placed on injured reserve (IR) after suffering a knee injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s matchup against the Vikings.

In the Scope: Week 8

Due to recent injuries, breakouts, and trades, there seems to be a buzz around the waiver wire for the first time in a while heading into Week 8.And while you’re still using your FAAB and waiver claims on priority adds like Ty Johnson and Kenny Stills (both of whom were featured in this column earlier this season), it’s still important to take your chance on a flier to fill out your bench once the waivers have cleared. As always, here are your Week 8 “In the Scope” candidates who have the potential to be next week’s top waiver claims

IDP By the Numbers: AFC Week 7

Rather than doing a full, 5,000-word snap count thread every week, we’re going to simplify things a little bit. You don’t need me to tell you Bobby Wagner is playing 100% of snaps every week. So we’re just going to hit on the important numbers and any trends we’re starting to see. Let’s get into the IDP numbers to know from the AFC from Week 7.

Redraft Waiver Wire: Week 8

Kenny Stills returned from his two-week absence to put up 105 yards after catching four of five targets. Stills has been hit and miss for fantasy so far this season, scoring double-digit points three times, but less than five points twice in the five games he has played. But the reason Stills is a must-add is the potential lengthy absence of Will Fuller.

Week 8 Streamers

In my week 7 streamers article, I recommended Cousins as part of a three-week stream, including Weeks 7-9. Cousins paid off against the Lions in Week 7, scoring 29.2 fantasy points in four-point touchdown scoring. This was Cousins’ third straight game exceeding 20 points, giving him momentum heading into this home matchup against the Redskins.
