Fryfogle put together a solid five-year career at Indiana University. The 2019 season was his “coming out party” after he hauled in 45 receptions for 604 yards and three touchdowns. He really jumped onto NFL scouts’ radars in 2020, as he hauled in 37 receptions for 721 yards and seven touchdowns. He was voted the Big Ten Receiver of the Year by conference coaches, but he put together a rather disappointing campaign during his final season for the Hoosiers. Although he hauled in more receptions (46), he produced the fewest receiving yards since the 2018 season (512), and he only hauled in one receiving touchdown. Nonetheless, Fryfogle finished his collegiate career 10th all-time in Hoosiers history in career receiving touchdowns (14) and sixth all-time in both career receiving yards (2,231) and career receptions (158).
STRENGTHS
Although his speed isn’t elite, he tends to run faster the more vertical he gets. Able to box out defenders and haul in 50/50 balls. Great rhythm in his route-running, as he often excels in back-shoulder throws. Fully extends and comes away with tough catches over a crowd of defenders.
WEAKNESSES
Didn’t take the big leap in 2021 after turning heads during the 2020 season. Has no special teams experience. Needs to improve as a blocker, and that should come if he adds strength to his frame. Drops too many catchable balls, and he lacks big-play ability in the open field.
ATHLETIC TESTING
At the NFL combine, Fryfogle measured in at 6’1” and 204 lbs. Which equates to a BMI of 26.9. At the combine, he ran a 4.53 40-yard dash (57th percentile), which at his height and weight equates to a 96.9-speed score (60th percentile). Fryfogle also recorded a 129.8 burst score (86th percentile), an 11.62 agility score (13th percentile), a 9.99 catch radius (48th percentile), and a college dominator of 28.8 percent (48th percentile).
Fryfogle showcases elite leaping abilities, as his 39” vertical landed him tied for third among the 40 receivers at the combine. He’s a great athlete, but his speed is a little concerning.
FANTASY INSIGHTS
Dallas is always looking to upgrade their wide receiver position. They made that clear by drafting Jalen Tolbert 88th overall. They quickly signed Fryfogle once the draft was complete, and the two join a talented wide receiver room that already rosters CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, James Washington, Noah Brown, and Simi Fehoko. Fryfogle will have a tough time making the 53-man roster, but he’s in line to battle for the WR5/6 spot with Brown, Fehoko, and others. He’s worth stashing on your taxi squads as long as we hear positive noise surrounding his performance at camp. For now, he’s not worth drafting in any league format, but he landed at a great location.
