Rosters to Target for Instant Fantasy Impact: NFC South

During the free agency period and rookie draft season, you’ll see many write-ups about how a player ended up in the perfect “Landing Spot.” Even if you’re an advocate of talent over landing spot, you have to admit that landing plays a role in a players production. DFF has decided to take a look at every team, broken down by division, to see which teams roster lend themselves to instant production or at least the speculation for immediate production at specific positions. We can target players that land on these rosters either for short-term fixes, instant production or as flip candidates.

NFC South:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

Position looking for instant impact:

Running Back

Why this Roster:

This team has lots of holes to fill, but running back seems to be the most glaring. Doug Martinhas been terrible. Peyton Barber has been ok when given a chance but is nothing more than a serviceable backup at this point. Jacquizz Rodgers has grossly out-performed anyone’s expectations for him, and Charles Sims is a pending free agent, likely to leave as one of the league’s best pass-catching options out of the backfield. The incoming rookie class is full of running back talent, and the Buccaneers should have no shortage of opportunities to draft a starter and a difference maker this year.

Carolina Panthers:

Position looking for instant impact:

Running Back and Wide Receiver

Why this Roster:

This team is much worse on paper than expected. They need a lead back to replace Jonathan Stewart on early downs. Not that Christian McCaffrey isn’t capable, but he and the team are best served moving him all around the field, not just as a pure, early down, between the tackles running back type. At receiver, they seem to like Devin Funchess, and hope Curtis Samuel bounces back from injury, but I find that duo to be extremely uninspiring. I’m so disgusted by the rest of their receiving corps that I refuse to type their names out. Here it is if you want to subject yourself to that type of punishment. This is the only team I found to have 2 positions in need of immediate help.

Atlanta Falcons:

Position looking for instant impact:

Wide Receiver

Why this roster:

Assuming you think Austin Hooper can be a playmaker at tight end, the position of need has to be at wide receiver. Behind Julio Jones, Mo Samu has been a solid option but after that, it’s a real crapshoot. Justin Hardy has been mostly underwhelming thus far in his career despite high praise from the coaching staff and Matt Ryan each off-season. Taylor Gabriel has performed well as a role player, but he’s likely to leave via free agency in the off-season. That doesn’t leave anyone else worth noting at the position. They need depth and playmakers badly.

New Orleans Saints:

Position looking for instant impact:

Tight End

Why this roster:

The Saints are set at Running Back and have a decent receiving corps behind Michael Thomas but have lacked a dynamic, playmaking tight end since the departure of Jimmy Graham. Coby Fleener has been an utter failure, and Josh Hill is, well, Josh Hill. Jimmy Graham is set to hit the market as a free agent, so maybe a reunion is in order if they can get him to take a pay cut. Otherwise, I like this as a landing spot for the Eagles Trey Burton and the team can also draft one of this year’s decent tight end talents in the draft as well with the intent of bringing him along and developing him into a potent offensive weapon.
