This off-season on the Fantasy Football Fellas podcast we debuted a segment dubbed “ADP Sniping.” The idea was to take advantage of drafting online by identifying players that were pushed down by specific website rankings because we all know that there’s nothing better than sneaking one by your league mates. Well, the fun doesn’t have to end at the draft. One of my favorite tricks in Fantasy Football (you can call it a “life hack” if you want… that’s hot now, right?) is “Waiver Wire Sniping.”
This strategy is simple. Without compromising your roster (of course), look to see if you have an available roster spot or a player that you were holding as a possible fill-in for a week that is no longer needed. Then look a week or two ahead and see if any of your current starters are on a bye or have a matchup you want to avoid. By picking up a streaming option or high-end stash before the weekend action, you can “snipe” that player for free. “Sniping” allows you to eliminate the grueling wait on Wednesday or Thursday morning, hoping your Waiver Wire pick-up isn’t grabbed by another team with a lower waiver priority or more FAAB dollars. If the chips fall your way, you may have a very valuable piece for the low-low price of NOTHING.
With the bye weeks now in the rear-view mirror, the streaming focus will mainly be on the QB, TE, and DST options since your hopefully not having to stream at RB or WR. I will continue to give you stash candidates at RB and WR regarding potential longer-term value as well as one spot start player for each position. Happy Hunting!
Week 13 Streaming Options
Blake Bortles vs. IND (36%) – Bortles is by no means a stud streamer that I would bench my regular starter for, but he could be helpful if you’re already streaming QB. Bortles and the Jaguars face the Colts who currently give up the 7th most points to the position. In Jacksonville’s first matchup against Indy early this year, Bortles was only able to muster one TD but he did top 300 passing yards.
Josh McCown vs. KC (31%) – After being a solid bye-week replacement in the middle of the season, McCown could help pick up a win to get you into the playoffs next week. Even though the matchup on paper is better for Bortles, McCown is facing a Chiefs defense that has given up the 9th most points to QBs on the year. And prior to his last outing, McCown put up a minimum of 2 TDs in five straight games.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins vs. KC (59%) – I’ll stick with Jets here and my boy, ASJ. Featured quite a bit this season, with the Jets coming off the bye, his ownership took a dip last week. The Chiefs have been pretty good against TEs this season, but I don’t mind starting ASJ and hoping for 6-9 points, which he’s been able to do in 4 of his last 6 games.
Charles Clay vs. NE (32%) – After a rough start to the season, the Patriots defense has stepped up quite a bit as of late, and that has carried over to their defense against the TE position. However, with Tyrod Taylor back under center and the question marks around Kelvin Benjamin, I think Clay will see targets in a game that Buffalo will have to pass quite a bit to keep up.
Chicago Bears vs. SF (18%) – The Bears DST will most likely not be on many rosters ahead of their week 11 matchup vs. the Eagles, but grab them now while you still can. Heading back home in week 13 for a plus matchup against the 49ers is a great streaming option next week for that playoff push.
The Stashes – Listed in order of priority.
RB: Devontae Booker (30%), Damien Williams (38%), Marlon Mack (28%), Elijah McGuire (6%), Matt Breida (6%), Rex Burkhead (50%), Danny Woodhead (52%)
WR: Corey Davis (48%), Cooper Kupp (54%), Corey Coleman (39%), Martavis Bryant (44%), Dede Westbrook (26%), Josh Gordon (49%), Dontrelle Inman (10%),
Spot Starters for Week 13
RB: Devontae Booker @ MIA (30%) – We’ll see this week if Booker is given the reins to the backfield, but a good matchup awaits him in week 13.
WR: Corey Davis vs. HOU (48%) – Juicy matchup for a player who has seen 23 targets in 3 weeks since coming back from a hamstring injury. Add in question marks to Rishard Matthews, could be a big week.
Week 13 Potential Matchups to Avoid: ATL vs. MIN, IND @ JAX, SEA vs. PHI
