All offseason, the drumbeat around second-year wideout Luther Burden has been deafening. Ben Johnson even said in late May that he was “buying Luther Burden stock right now.” When a head coach and playcaller says that, the fantasy community and NFL odds live should probably listen. 

And we did. 

Burden is currently going as the WR24 in FantasyPros’ Real-Time ADP for seasonal leagues. In Dynasty, he’s been steamed up to WR18 on KeepTradeCut. We’re even more aggressive here at DFF, where Burden sits as our WR17 in consensus rankings.

Best and Worst Picks in Dynasty Startup Drafts: Rounds 5-8

I’m bananas for Burden. This is about the area I like to start swinging for upside, and Luther Burden has it in droves. He finished his rookie year on a strong note and ended up with 652 receiving yards and two scores on 47 receptions. But it’s the underlying metrics that get me all hot and bothered: WR2 in target separation (2.62), WR3 in yards per route run (2.79), and WR4 in QB Rating per target (123.1). With D.J. Moore now in Buffalo, Burden is set to take on a larger role in Ben Johnson’s offense going into Year 2. 

Fade: Quinshon Judkins (RB – CLE)

There’s a lot to like about Quinshon Judkins; I just wish he wasn’t in such a bad situation and coming off serious leg injuries. He broke his fibula and dislocated his ankle in his right leg late in December. That’s a tough thing to come back from, even at 22 years old. He’ll be fine eventually, but even before that, he only averaged 3.6 yards per carry behind a piss poor Cleveland offensive line. His 12.1 fantasy points per game were only good for RB25. Maybe in Round 6 or 7, I can talk myself into it. But in the fifth round, I want a rock-solid back I can feel good about. I don’t get that feeling with Judkins.

Comparing ADP, Dynasty to Redraft: AFC South

A much-overlooked aspect of Dynasty is value comparison, or comparing the values of Dynasty players to Redraft players and seeing which is worth more or less. You might be thinking “well, duh! Of course older players are worth less in Dynasty than Redraft!” to which I agree. But what about Daniel Jones (QB – NYJ), who is only 25 years old? Should he be worth more in Redraft or Dynasty? Or how about Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR – DEN), who in Redraft has an ADP of WR10, but in Dynasty he’s valued as WR6. Which side more appropriately values players? In this series, which will take place over nine parts (one part for each division and a rookie roundup after the draft), I’ll be evaluating every skill position player on every team and giving my thoughts on their value, whether they are overvalued compared to Redraft or undervalued. Usually, the appropriate value will be somewhere in the middle.

The 2022 NFL season is almost here! Everyone is drafting, even the most casual of fantasy managers. The big national tournaments are filling up fast and in the dynasty world roster cutdowns are nearly upon us. When we loosely compare players, most people feel they have a good idea of what kind of production to expect. We may think “Jonathan Taylor is easily the RB1 overall this season with the upgrade to Matt Ryan from Carson Wentz.” These are the sort of questions I look to answer with my process. I make projections to ground myself and to help understand what is possible, probable, or realistic. So, in this series, I will be going through each NFL team and making median projections for their 2022 seasons with their most fantasy-relevant players. I may be able to discern if certain players are being undervalued immediately but in most cases, I will need to finish more teams to get a good idea.
