IDP Triple Sleeper Shot! By: J.T. Maynard

These three players are not at all household names but if you play in hardcore IDP leagues, then I advise you to grab them while you still can before they blow up the stat sheet for someone else.

Defensive line

DT – Sheldon Rankins, New Orleans Saints

This 6’2” 305-pound mountain of a man from Louisville was a first round pick in 2016 by the Saints. He was hurt up until week nine when he got some playing time against the 49ers and secured his first pro tackle. Once that I saw his feet get wet I knew he was going to step up on a defense that needed a spark. The next week against Denver he went on to record his first sack, tackle for a loss and 2 more tackles. After all was said and done he recorded these numbers in fantasy:

Tackles TFL Assists FR FF INTS Sacks PD
15 3 5 0 1 0 4 0

So in all reality he did damn well for half the year. I don’t see why he can’t be a top DT in IDP leagues that require that position in 2017. GO GRAB HIM!

Linebacker

LB – Vince Williams, Pittsburgh Steelers

Standing at my height of 6’1” and coming in at 233 pounds  Mr. Williams is not a huge like most former Steeler linebackers but this man can ball. In the 6 game span where Mr. Williams was a starter in 2016 he scored 95.00 fantasy points, with a whopping 38 fantasy points against the Chiefs alone. This game alone shows his big time potential. Now that Lawrence Timmons has moved on to Miami (*I knew he would not be a Steeler in 2017, my IDP Underground article stated that*) I really think and hope that the Pittsburgh brass will let this man do his thing and rack up fantasy points for all who held onto him. So if you scan your waiver wire and see that he is still sitting there, then GO GRAB HIM!!

Defensive back

Safety – Clayton Geathers, Indianapolis Colts

This 6-foot-2, 220-pound safety had 59 tackles in only nine games last season before landing on the injured reserve with a concussion. If you notice his size and style of play what do you see? I see him maybe getting played down in the box as a hybrid inside linebacker/box safety. His strength and size are ideal for this move and this has been a huge hole in the Indy defense as of late. With Lamar Miller, Demarco Murray/Derek Henry and possibly Leonard Fournette coming into his division, I think Clayton will be busy racking up the tackles for your IDP squad. So, once again if you didn’t hear me before…….. GO GRAB HIM!!!

I hope you enjoyed this quick shot in the arm of IDP Sleepers! Stay tuned for my upcoming articles, including my “In the Player Pit” player interviews, player profiles, rankings and the post-draft edition of my second installment of the “IDP Underground.”
